Celebrating 25th anniversary of HKSAR
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Force held its Charity Concert at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on July 30 and July 31. Hong Kong Police College was the meticulous organiser of the event. Chief Executive Mr John Lee and Secretary for Security Mr Tang Ping-keung were the guests of honour at the concert for the first night and second night respectively. Honorary President of the Hong Kong Police Band Mr Tang Yat-sun supported the event with full sponsorship.
Splendid performance
Hong Kong Police Band, together with Hong Kong Drum Ensemble, Hong Kong Vigor Marching Band, Hong Kong Music for Our Young Foundation and Yaumati Kaifong Association School Show Choir, performed successfully in the concert. Assistant Percussion Principal of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Mr Chin Kwok-wai, played traditional Chinese drum music while special guest performers Ms Elisa Chan, Mr Johnny Yip and Ms Hana Kuk sang a number of famous songs from the classic repertoire.
Care for the society
The concert was well supported by different sectors of the society. All patron packages and tickets were sold out in no time, with over $5 million raised and to be donated to four charitable organisations, namely The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society Kowloon, Hong Kong Alzheimer’s Disease Association, Hong Kong Dog Rescue and Paws United Charity, for youth services, support services for patients of Alzheimer’s disease and protection of animal rights. Complimentary tickets had been given to underprivileged groups, non-government organisations, Senior Police Call and Junior Police Call, for their members to share the joy brought by music.
