The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB), together with the Association of I.T. Leaders in Education, organised two webinars for teaching staff of primary and secondary schools on May 26 and 30 respectively under the theme of “Digital Literacy Series – Stay Away from Pitfalls” to heighten their awareness of information security and increase their understanding about digital literacy and new cyber norm. Representatives of a social media platform and the Agent of Change Foundation were invited to share information on the subject. About 200 teaching staff joined the webinars.

Superintendent of CSTCB Fan Chun-yip remarked at the opening ceremony that perpetrators became more active on the internet amid the pandemic. Amidst misinformation, inappropriate content and cyber bullying, it might be easy for juveniles to become victims or contravene the law inadvertently. In the webinars, officers of CSTCB shared knowledge about common cyber pitfalls, cyber security risks and the modus operandi of scammers, as well as exploring the means to become a smart cyber citizen.

Representatives of the social media platform Ms Maggie Tam and Ms Charis Lee, together with the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Agent of Change Foundation Mr William Chan, shared safety tips on using social media and explained how to bring digital literacy into schools.

CSTCB will organise train-the-trainer courses on digital literacy in the second half of the year. Tailor-made training programmes and materials will be designed for teachers of Information Technology and Citizenship and Social Development Studies to cultivate students’ digital literacy, equip them in the digital era and develop their critical reflection and rational thinking.
