The Force Working Group on Community Engagement held the fifth meetings with the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools and the Federations of Parent-teacher Associations in the Hong Kong Police College on June 10 and 13 respectively. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and Director of Operations Chan Joon-sun hosted the meetings, with around 20 chairpersons or vice-chairpersons of the two associations invited, and the District Commanders and officers of Police Community Relations Office of the Districts attending.

The Commissioner pointed out in his opening remarks that despite the slight drop in the number of young offenders arrested in the first quarter of 2022, a significant number of teenagers were arrested for serious drug trafficking offences, debt collection-related offences and even prostitution, which was a worrying situation. He especially played a short video in which a teenage girl who had been sentenced to 17.5 years’ imprisonment for drug trafficking was interviewed, with a view to urging all participants of the meetings to join the Force in preventing teenagers from falling prey to or becoming criminals. The Commissioner also stated that the Force would produce more informative short videos on anti-drug, anti-deception and other crime prevention topics to enhance promoting these messages to youths.

The attendees exchanged views during the meetings, for which the principals and parents gave positive comments. They stated that the crime-prevention information would be shared among the students. For example, episodes of interviews from Drug Enticement would be shown during morning assemblies to facilitate prevention of youth crimes.
