The Sea Safety Ambassador Scheme Honorary Presidents Council was founded in April 2021. Due to the pandemic, the inauguration ceremony was delayed until June 2, 2022, in which 24 seafaring dignities were appointed Honorary Presidents and issued with appointment certificates. Regional Commander of Marine David Jordan, together with representatives from the Fire Services Department, Marine Department, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong, attended the ceremony.

Marine Region has launched the Sea Safety Ambassador Scheme since 2020, with a view to building an interdepartmental and cross-industry communication platform to promote sea safety.
