Wan Chai District Outstanding Police Officer Contest cum Commendation Ceremony 2021, jointly organised by Wan Chai District (WCHDIST), Wan Chai District Office and District Fight Crime Committee (Wan Chai District) (DFCC WCH) to boost the morale of frontline officers, was held at Wan Chai Police Station on May 20, 2022 to commend officers for their outstanding performance during the execution of their duty in WCHDIST over the past year. District Commander of WCHDIST Chan Sze-tat was the award presenter of the ceremony.
A total of 45 nominations were received from citizens this year. The adjudication panel comprising representatives of DFCC WCH selected the winners of Gold, Silver, Bronze, merit awards and letters of appreciation. Apart from the officers of WCHDIST, awardees included the officers of Police Community Relations Office of Eastern District.
The Gold Award of this year goes to District Crime Squad (DCS) 1 of WCHDIST in relation to a case of conspiracy to defraud in which the victim of the case received a cold call from a swindler purporting to be a staff member of a bank persuading the victim to deposit an amount into a designated bank account as a proof of asset for the opening of an investment account. After investigation, the officers launched an arrest operation in September 2021, in which four males and three females were arrested, including the mastermind of the syndicate. In addition to neutralising an organised fraud syndicate, the officers succeeded in preventing more citizens from suffering loss.
All awardees indicated that they would keep maintaining the spirit of “serving Hong Kong with honour, duty and loyalty” and strive for safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
