On May 25, a married couple lost a diamond ring in Mong Kok. The car camera recording revealed that the wife dropped the ring when she got off the car and a male picked it up and left. The couple made a “Lost Property” report at Mong Kok Police Station on the same day but no relevant record had been found. Hence, they uploaded the video clip from the car camera on social media platforms with the hope that the subject male would contact them on his own initiative. Their efforts, however, were in vain.
Officers of Regional Intelligence Unit of Kowloon West (RIU KW) noticed the video clip and followed up the case proactively. Officers had done extensive CCTV tracing and intelligence analyses before identifying the subject male. They found that he had filed a report at Tsuen Wan Police Station the next day. In the absence of proper tools to check the laser serial number on the diamond ring, however, the officers from the Report Room could not enter the number for the system to match with the couple’s report. It was fortunate that upon the follow-up action of the RIU KW officers, the couple could eventually recover the invaluable commemorative ring.
The couple subsequently visited KW Regional Headquarters to deliver their appreciation to the subject officers and praise the Force for their active and efficient actions. The performance of RIU KW in this case is an excellent example to show that public confidence in the Force can definitely be enhanced.
