The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) held the first-ever internal counter-cyberterrorism exercise on May 27. The exercise aimed at enhancing the awareness and readiness of CSTCB officers to counter cyberterrorism, and strengthening the interaction amongst different divisions for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
A total of 70 CSTCB officers were engaged in the exercise. They simulated incidents with online incitement of terrorist acts, cyber-attack on critical infrastructures and the government information system, as well as a drone attack. The exercise was carried out in the online live broadcast mode. All scenario handling in various locations was simultaneously broadcast in real-time through live streaming at the Cyber Range to facilitate the management monitoring the exercise and inserting ad-hoc assignments. At the end of the exercise, Chief Superintendent of CSTCB Cheng Lai-ki appreciated the exercise preparation team and participating officers, and reminded the officers that they should stay alert at all time against cyber threats.
The exercise demonstrated the commitment and capability of CSTCB in maintaining a high level of readiness and awareness when faced with the threat of cyber terrorism.
