Deputy Commissioner (National Security) (NS) Lau Chi-wai attended the “National Security Law Legal Forum – Thrive with Security” hosted by the Department of Justice on May 28. As a symposium speaker on the theme of “Frontier Issues in Safeguarding National Security”, DCP (NS) analysed cyber security amongst the 16 major fields of national security, Hong Kong’s cyber security risks and limitations, and made relevant enhancement recommendations.
DCP (NS) stated that international affairs are complex and constantly changing, while Hong Kong is one of the major and open cosmopolitan cities of the country with internet information being developed, cyberspace will become the main battlefield of geopolitical wrestling.
DCP (NS) emphasised that Hong Kong should step further in defending cyber security, such as constructing an all-round strategic cyber security governance system led by a centralised body in coordinating cyber security work; strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to cultivate a good cyber security culture; and enacting national security related laws such as Cyber Security Law and Article 23 of the Basic Law, etc.
