Whilst on patrol on April 29 morning, officers of Patrol Sub-unit 1 of Marine Harbour Division (MHDIV) spotted two citizens who had fallen overboard in the waters off Sai Wan Ho. The officers approached them for rescue immediately. Police Vessel 56 of Marine Police Training School, which was on training in the vicinity, also came at once to join the action. The two citizens were eventually saved and conveyed in conscious state to the Marine Regional Headquarters in Sai Wan Ho. One of them was sent instantly to hospital for treatment.
The officers found later that one of the two citizens fell overboard because of high waves when they sailed out in their boat. Her friend jumped into the sea and tried to save her. Both of them, however, were gradually exhausted as they could neither swim back to their boat nor get any lifesaving equipment. It was lucky that they suffered no major injury due to the officers’ timely rescue.
Subsequently, the two wrote an appreciation letter to praise the officers for staying alert during their patrol to secure the life of the general public. The officers were encouraged by the citizens’ praise and would continue serving the public with professionalism.
