The Police Public Engagement Office (PPEO) of the Major Incidents Bureau conducted the Public Events Engagement Course (PEEC) on May 25 and 26 for officers from the Regional Public Engagement Offices, Police Community Relations Offices and Event Management Offices in order to enhance the officers’ knowledge on the latest socio-political dynamics.

The contents of PEEC have been revamped in response to the changes in social situation. Apart from deliberation on latest current issues and discussion on means to grasp local sentiment through emerging media, contents related to security operation were included to enhance the participants’ operational readiness for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Senior Superintendent of National Security Department Li Kwai-wah was invited to introduce the enforcement guidelines of the National Security Law, whilst experts from Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau and Psychological Services Group shared their skills on the application of technology on gathering public events intelligence, and the techniques on emotions management and effective engagement respectively.

The participants showed positive responses and considered that PEEC had helped enhancing their understanding on the current political arena, and hence increased their preparedness for future challenges in policing work.
