The Recruitment Division (RECDIV) launched in April the Recruitment Campaign comprising three activities, namely the “Police Recruitment Buddies Scheme” (PRB), “Recruitment Slogan Competition” and “Spokespersons Recruitment” to encourage serving police officers to inspire their friends and family members to join the Force. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee was also featured in a promotional video in which he encouraged members of the Force to make contribution to the recruitment exercise.
PRB aims to encourage serving officers to recommend their kin and pals joining the Force. RECDIV will post on its POINT webpage a recruitment information pack for officers to learn about the selection process, foundation training and latest recruitment situation so that they may give guidance to their friends and family members who are interested in joining the Force. Referred candidates will also get additional arrangement, the details of which are available on the POINT webpage. To recognise the contribution of officers, RECDIV will add the identity “Recruitment Buddy” under the “Extra Duties” field in its PICS and issue them with appreciation letters.
“Recruitment Slogan Competition” and “Spokespersons Recruitment” have recorded 824 entries and 67 applications respectively. The chief of the adjudication panel, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak, commended that the slogan entries were of remarkably high quality and demonstrated creativity and originality, resonating well with the theme of police recruitment. The award presentation ceremony of “Recruitment Slogan Competition” will be held on June 19, the coming Recruitment Experience and Assessment Day (READ), and the winning entries may be used for promotion purpose.
The participants of “Spokespersons Recruitment” have attractive characters with much enthusiasm in the recruitment exercise. Upon careful selection, five officers have been appointed as Recruitment Spokespersons. They will take part in various recruitment activities and represent the Force to attract applicants of different background.
Sharon
Sharon is now attached to Patrol Sub-unit of Sau Mau Ping Division. Sharon was determined to join the Force after witnessing the riot in 2019. She took part in Project ACHIEVE and joined the Force in 2021.
“Project ACHIEVE helped me a lot in joining the Force. I was lucky enough to have met some passionate Project ACHIEVE ambassadors and I hope to pass on the spirit and contribute to recruiting talents to join the Force and encourage females to pursue their dreams.”
Lok-yi
Lok-yi is now attached to Patrol Sub-unit of Sau Mau Ping Division. She joined the Force in 2019 upon graduation from Jinan University in the Mainland. In 2021, she represented the Force and shared with Hong Kong students in the Mainland about her police work and training experience.
“Being a Recruitment Spokesperson, I hope to assist in recruiting Hong Kong students who are studying in the Mainland by telling them the diversified police duties and encouraging people of different background and personality to join the Force and give play to their talents.”
Hei
Hei joined the Force in 2018 and is now attached to the Marine North Division. Before joining the Force, Hei represented the Hong Kong Squash Team and was ranked the third in the World Junior Ranking by World Squash Federation. To promote recruitment of the Force, Hei took part in “Police Recruitment On-air” in 2021, in which he took a physical fitness challenge against another team led by chief coach of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Women’s Team, Mr Li Ching.
“Policing work is very suitable for athletes as it requires one to possess high level of fitness. I hope to help recruiting more athletes by sharing my personal experience.”
Hiu-fai
Hiu-fai is now attached to the Emergency Unit of New Territories South. Hiu-fai was born in the Mainland and moved to Hong Kong when he was 13 years old. He thinks police work is very challenging and he can help Hong Kong citizens. It was his childhood dream to become a police officer. Prior to joining the Force, Hiu-fai was a member of the Junior Police Call and the Hong Kong Army Cadets, as well as a former member of the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Representative Team.
“In the past, my impression of police work was mostly gunfights which I saw in films. After joining the Force, I once handled an incident in which I assisted an elderly who suffered from dementia to reunite with his family. The case allowed me to understand that we can help more citizens by taking one more step to ‘show major meaning in a minor role’. As a Recruitment Spokesperson, I hope to tell more police stories to all Hong Kong citizens.”
Hoi-suen
Hoi-suen joined the Force at the age of 18 and is now attached to the Railway Response Team. He is an outgoing person who enjoys team sports. Hoi-suen also enjoys team work so he joined the Force to protect Hong Kong citizens together with his teammates.
“Many young people who aspire to join the Force may lack the confidence to do so. I hope to inspire them with my own story so that they can take part in the recruitment exercise confidently.”
