Districts join hands with the community to hold online activities encouraging children and teenagers to stay home for fighting the fifth wave of the epidemic.

KWTDIST JPC conducts online activities for youngsters at home

Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) organised various online platform activities in April for the Junior Police Call (JPC) of KWTDIST to encourage youngsters to stay home for fighting the epidemic. The events comprised an online quiz competition on crime-fighting and online courses on light clay and watercolour painting for JPC members to acquire knowledge and skills in different areas without leaving home. Participants of these popular events actively interacted with KWTDIST officers. They promoted crime fighting messages vividly with topics themed on the crime prevention mascot created by KWTDIST.

During the pandemic, KWTDIST will continue to maintain close contact with JPC members in the district with various means and explain to them about cybercrime, phone scams by people impersonating Mainland law enforcement officials and information on safeguarding national security.

TPDIST keeps contact with youngsters during epidemic

Tai Po District (TPDIST) maintains its contact with youngsters during the epidemic. The Police Community Relations Office (PCRO) of TPDIST organised a seminar titled “Parenting webinar on healthy diet during epidemic and anti-deception awareness” attended by more than a hundred students and parents on March 19. The speakers explained to the participants how frauds could be prevented in order to enhance their awareness against deception. Concerned about the health of the youth during the pandemic, PCRO staff invited a registered dietitian to attend the seminar. Advice on balanced diet and ways to boost immunity were shared to facilitate young people to stay healthy during the epidemic.

Between April 4 and April 29, TPDIST also held the “Smart Net Campus”, a free online learning activity for students to acquire extra-curricular knowledge while staying at home to fight the epidemic. The JPC of TPDIST set “Adapt drug-free healthy lifestyle”, “Exploring Hong Kong”, “Financial Management and Anti-deception” and “STEM” as course topics. Students could complete the courses by self-studying online and joining the online quiz games. JPC members would be issued a certificate after finishing the courses. Five members with the highest total score in the online quiz would have the opportunity to receive a scholarship sponsored by the Honorary President Council of TPDIST JPC. The event received enthusiastic response and attracted nearly 300 primary and secondary school students as well as JPC members in the district. Parents also agreed that it helped inspiring students to learn on their own so that the concept of “keep learning while classes are suspended” could be realised.

CDIST holds parent-child colouring and poster design competition

Central District (CDIST) and the Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee (the Committee) held the well-responded parent-child colouring and poster design competition in February, with over 800 entries received. District Commander of CDIST Wong Wai-shun, Chairlady of the Committee Ms Lam Yuet-ping and vice-chairpersons of the Committee formed the panel of judges. They selected the winner, runners-up, merit awardee and the best participating school respectively. The competition inspired the creativity of young children and teenagers, strengthened parent-child relationship and enhanced road safety awareness amongst members of the public.
