The Railway District conducted a joint counter-terrorism exercise codenamed “OCEANSHIELD” with Counter Terrorism Response Unit, Emergency Unit of Hong Kong Island, Wan Chai District, Police Tactical Unit Zulu Company and the MTR Corporation (MTRC) on May 10 at the new Exhibition Centre MTR station.

The exercise simulated a terrorist attack in the Station. The frontline units of the Force arrived at the scene promptly. All the terrorists were subdued soon and the crisis was defused. An Affected Persons Processing Unit was set up to handle the affected civilians in the station. The staff of the MTRC also assisted in evacuating passengers from the station immediately.

The exercise enabled different units of the Force and MTRC to further strengthen their capabilities in handling terrorist attacks in the railway system as well as consolidating their communication and coordination.
