Due to the fifth wave of the epidemic, the mosque located inside the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre was temporary closed down since the beginning of this year. The mosque reopened on April 29, 2022 after social distancing measures being eased gradually in late April this year. Various departments of the Force are committed to arranging a series of epidemic prevention measures so that non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) in the district can pray in the mosque peacefully. As April is the Ramadan of the Muslim, the Police Community Relations Office of Tai Po District (TPDIST) visited the mosque on the day when it reopened so as to communicate with the NEC and promote anti-deception messages.
The Force recruited two batches of Police officers from Pakistan in 1952 and 1961 respectively. A mosque was built on the site of the former Junior Police Officers Married Quarters (JPO Quarters) at Fan Garden, Fanling to cater for their praying. Hence, their descendants call themselves “Fanling Chai”. Since the redevelopment works of the JPO Quarters at Fan Garden started in 2017, the mosque inside has been relocated to the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre. About 150 Muslims, half of whom are descendants of the Pakistani Police officers, go and pray there.
