While he was still Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) (DCP MAN), Mr Kwok Yam-shu gave a sharing session under the Senior Leaders’ Exit Debriefing Series on April 25. He shared with over 150 officers his invaluable experience garnered during his 32 years of service. The sharing session was facilitated by Chief Superintendent Chan Chi-yung, the Knowledge Management Champion on Lessons Learnt.
Kwok Sir served a number of challenging roles over the years, taking up key posts in the Crime Wing, Hong Kong Police College, Marine Region, Hong Kong Island Region, Service Quality Wing, and Management Services Department. He received training at various prestigious institutions in the Mainland and overseas. Kwok Sir made an extraordinary achievement during his year at the Royal College of Defence Studies, UK by winning the “AFCEA Award for Strategic Leadership” among 90 competitors from 45 countries.
In addition to sharing the unprecedented challenges he faced and crisis management in handling public events, Kwok Sir highlighted the personal qualities of successful leaders, including the courage to express opinions, make decisions and undertake responsibilities in performing daily duties. He also stressed the importance of contribution to the Force, focusing on the big picture and overall benefits. Kwok Sir encouraged the officers to keep up the momentum for life-long learning, receiving new knowledge and applying what they have learnt to their work. He pointed out that language and logical thinking were inextricably linked and encouraged the officers to enhance their language and thinking skills by reading novels.
To conclude his sharing, Kwok Sir summarised his police career with the words “Having honoured and overfulfilled the mission”, and wished all the participants a prosperous career. The sharing session was indeed very inspiring and benefiting for the participants.
