The newly designed “tactical buses” of the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) have been delivered since the second quarter of 2022, with the first eight units being collected by PTU Headquarters and assigned to the relevant Company for deployment.
Transport Division of Traffic Branch Headquarters has consulted frontline officers on the design of “tactical buses” via various channels since 2016 and the feedback received has been incorporated into the design. A number of new features are added to improve its performance and safety, whilst ensuring the Force-wide operational efficiency.
The design and equipment of the new “tactical bus” are significantly different from the previous medium-sized buses in various aspects, including cargo capacity, payload, compartment equipment, storage rack and seating design. Besides, the anti-riot configuration of the new “tactical bus” has also been strengthened with the installation of windscreen made of anti-riot material, run-flat tires and reinforced bumper, thereby meeting the operational need of the platoons and frontline officers.
“Tactical buses” of the Emergency Unit and Quick Reaction Force will be in service next year.
