In addition to enforcing the government’s policy on combating the virus, the Force also joins hands with the community to support the needy under the epidemic, upholding the values of caring and professionalism.
Distribution of anti-epidemic service bags
Led by the Security Bureau, Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and Force members, accompanied by representatives from the Junior Police Call (JPC), the Senior Police Call (SPC) and the community, paid visit to Sham Shui Po to distribute anti-epidemic service bags on April 3. The group departed from the Sham Shui Po Police Station and distributed anti-epidemic service bags to residents in the district, appealing them to fight the virus together. Each bag contains anti-epidemic proprietary Chinese medicines, rapid antigen test kits and masks etc. for enhancing personal protection.
JPC and SPC volunteer to support community
In the past few months, JPC and SPC members actively participated in multiple anti-epidemic volunteer activities. Upon the coordination of Police Public Relations Branch and Police Community Relations Offices (PCROs), over 1 600 JPC and SPC members were recruited within a short period of time to participate in an anti-epidemic supply distribution activity on March 27 organised by the “Youth Anti-Coronavirus Link”, and also the territory-wide distribution of anti-epidemic service bags organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Home Affairs Department starting from late March. Furthermore, various JPC and SPC Honorary President Councils had donated anti-epidemic supplies to JPC and SPC members as well as people in need via PCROs. Volunteers from all walks of life made concerted and selfless efforts in fighting the epidemic.
Supporting infected residents
Under the severe epidemic situation, the School Liaison Officer of Sau Mau Ping District (SMPDIST) received a request for help from a school in the district on March 16, which concerned one of their students and his family members who were tested positive for COVID-19. The family was hence unable to leave home to buy medicines or food, and they had no relatives or friends to seek help from. Having learnt the dire situation, the School Liaison Officer of SMPDIST immediately delivered supplies to the student’s residence to meet the family’s pressing needs.
Fighting epidemic with schools
In a bid to support students amid the epidemic, Force members that had joined the “Life Buddies” programme paid visit to Gertrude Simon Lutheran College in Yuen Long on March 22 to distribute anti-epidemic supplies, including masks, rapid antigen test kits, alcohol-based hand rub and pulse oximeter.
“Life Buddies” is a youth mentoring scheme launched by the Commission on Poverty to promote mentoring culture in the community to help youth from disadvantaged background move upward in society, and thereby reducing intergenerational poverty. The Force has always been supportive to the scheme by active engagement, maintaining close ties with schools and caring for the youths.
