Due to the upsurge of serious traffic accidents involving heavy goods vehicle (HGV) at Tseung Kwan O landfill and on Wan Po Road in the first quarter of 2022, officers of the Road Safety Office of Traffic Kowloon East Region (T KE) proactively approached HGV drivers in the vicinity of those landfill and construction sites to remind them to drive safely, not to exceed speed limit and to check rearview mirrors and blind spots while driving. Officers also explained to drivers the possible consequences of serious traffic accidents, such as causing injury or death, facing the charge of “dangerous driving” or “dangerous driving causing death” as well as civil liability.
T NTS
It has long been the mission of Road Safety Office of Traffic New Territories South Region (T NTS) to promote cycling safety and the work has never ceased during the epidemic. Upon the invitation of the Cycling Association of Hong Kong (CAHK), a stakeholder who has built close partnership with T NTS since December 2021, T NTS officers agreed to attend CAHK’s cycling coaching course as guest speakers. During an online lecture held on March 24, 2022, officers briefed students on road safety topics such as cycling-related legislation, pedaling tips and road safety information.
T NTS will continue to disseminate road safety messages to various sectors of the community through different channels and organisations in the hope of reducing traffic accidents with concerted efforts.
