Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Support Wing has all along spared no effort in sourcing anti-epidemic service and equipment and proactively adopting different preventive measures. Under the fifth wave of the epidemic, the Force remains steadfast in duties, and the anti-epidemic work of the Support Wing is in full swing.
Providing Testing Services
In response to the government’s appeal of “early testing and detection”, Support Wing has provided both combined nasal and throat swab (CNTS) and deep-throat saliva (DTS) testing services to Force members since mid-2020. The need for testing service surged significantly when the fifth wave of the epidemic hit its peak. In view of this, Support Wing coordinated with different Districts to set up testing stations to facilitate Force members to undergo COVID-19 testing. By February 2022, around 60 testing stations had been set up and at least 40 000 tests had been conducted. Support Wing also provided DTS specimen collection packs for Force members to support government’s appeal of voluntary testing.
Subsequent to the announcement that individuals tested positive for COVID-19 by Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was recognised as positive cases, Support Wing, despite the short supply, has promptly sourced around two million RAT kits for Force members to conduct RAT before reporting duty.
Sourcing of anti-epidemic equipment
Support Wing endeavours to minimise the risk of infection among the Force during the fifth wave of the epidemic by having swiftly sourced various anti-epidemic equipment, including intelligent sterilising stations (ISSs), disinfection robots and handheld spraying sterilising devices, etc.
Fifteen sets of ISSs were rented in February 2022 for distribution to the Police Headquarters and six Regions. Regions then allocated the ISSs to different Districts for officers to disinfect themselves after performing duties. Additional disinfection robots that could spray disinfectant to sanitise workplace were also sourced in March 2022 for Regions. In addition, Support Wing sourced over 10 000 handheld spraying sterilising devices and distributed them to Regions in early March 2022 so that officers can disinfect beat patrol equipment conveniently.
In response to the constantly changing epidemic situation, Support Wing reacts flexibly and quickly to support government policies and operational needs, such as organising training on proper procedures of donning and doffing of personal protective equipment for anti-epidemic personnel that are exposed to high-risk environment, providing convenient COVID-19 testing arrangement for Force members, etc. Support Wing will continue to join hands with Force members to fight against the epidemic.
