TPDIST
Tai Po District (TPDIST) held a webinar with over 100 principals, discipline personnel and social workers from 40 secondary schools in Tai Po District and North District on February 24, with a view to strengthening liaison with the education sector and preventing juvenile delinquency.
Led by District Commander of TPDIST Ma Wai-hing, team commanders from the Crime and Operation Wings of TPDIST addressed juvenile delinquency and its trend as well as youth drug offence situation in the district, complemented with case sharing. Superintendent of the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit Leung Ho-ming and member of the Tai Po District Fight Crime Committee Mr Fan Hoi-kit also attended the webinar. They suggested ways to build a safe community and discussed offences related to youth bullying. The webinar’s question and answer session also allowed TPDIST officers and school representatives to better understand each other’s ways of tackling students’ problems, which was conducive to enhancing the law-abiding awareness of youths and students and helping them develop positive values.
The Chairman of the Association of Secondary School Heads in Tai Po District Mr Kwok Wing-keung and the Chairman of North District Secondary School Headmasters Conference Mr Fong Lek-leong were thankful to TPDIST for sharing cases and crime prevention tips as well as introducing TPDIST’s youth projects. Schools in the district would make good use of the teaching materials designed by the Force to develop students’ positive values and strengthen their law-abiding awareness.
On February 25, TPDIST held an online sharing session during which Police Constable of Sheung Shui Division Tang Yin-ni exchanged views with around 600 students from four secondary schools in Tai Po District and North District.
As a former fencing athlete representing Hong Kong, Tang Yin-ni introduced fencing to students and shared her previous training and experience of overcoming challenges. She also reminded students to beware of online scams, explained tricks commonly used by scammers, and taught them ways to protect themselves from scams by using swordsmanship as inspiration. For instance, never shop on unofficial online sales channels, never deliver goods before confirming receipt of payment when selling goods online, and never send nude photos of oneself to online friends. TPDIST will continue to maintain communication with students and youngsters and disseminate crime prevention messages through various means, and to help them establish positive attitudes.
TMDIST
On February 22, Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) held an anti-deception online seminar for Mainland and overseas exchange students from the Lingnan University and the Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Hong Kong.
The seminar delivered information on cybercrime, romance scams, online shopping fraud, telephone deception with fraudsters impersonating Mainland law enforcement officers and naked chat scams. Participants shared their personal experience of encountering related scams and consulted TMDIST officers regarding the use of the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222”.
TMDIST officers have also enhanced communication with the exchange students via social communication tools. They have created a WeChat group with Mainland exchange students of the Lingnan University in order to share timely anti-deception messages and relevant news to raise students’ anti-scam awareness. TMDIST will continue to enhance communication with the community and young people, and disseminate crime prevention and anti-deception messages through various means.
