Marine Region has organised a series of celebration activities to mark the 180th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Marine Police in 2022.
Photo Competition
Marine Region organised the Marine Police Photo Competition earlier. The competition was divided into three categories: people, vessel, and incident/activity. Apart from giving officers the opportunity to share their photographic works that captured meaningful moments and showcased the rich history of the Marine Police, the competition also enabled officers to demonstrate the spirit of the Force’s motto “Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty” in keeping Hong Kong’s waters and islands safe.
Philatelic products
Marine Region will launch a series of commemorative philatelic products in the first quarter of 2022, including special stamps, a presentation pack and a souvenir cover, to introduce different types of police launches and vessels as well as the progression, development and mission of the Marine Police.
Photo Book
With the assistance of the Hong Kong Police College, Marine Region will release a 180-page photo book in mid-2022. In addition to introducing the history of Marine Region, the book will include many precious photos to deepen readers’ understanding of marine police officers, fleet, police stations, bases and anecdotes since the establishment of the Marine Police in 1842.
Crime prevention theme ‘MARPOL wish you SAFE’
In 2022, Marine Region will launch a crime prevention theme “MARPOL wish you SAFE” and introduce the crime prevention mascots, the “Ping On Family”. Inspired by the Cheung Chau Ping On Bun which symbolises peace and safety, the crime prevention theme shows the Marine Police’s commitment to keeping the maritime community safe and working with the community to spread crime prevention and safety messages. Marine Region will disseminate six key anti-crime messages, namely “SECURE home”, “Scam SAFE”, “Property SAFE”, “SAFE at Sea”, “Grow Up SAFE” and “SAFE from Animal Cruelty” to promote crime prevention education among the maritime community and residents of the Islands District.
Facebook page and Instagram account
Marine Region has launched a Facebook page and an Instagram account with a view to reaching out to more citizens, as well as enhancing their understanding of the roles, duties and history of Marine Region. Through these social media platforms, Marine Region disseminates crime prevention and navigation safety messages to the public in a timely manner, and introduces police work to provide citizens with a better picture on how the Marine Police keep Hong Kong’s waters and islands safe.
