My name is Li Wing-hei. I am a mentee of the Police Mentorship Programme Outreach (PMPO) and a university student studying in the United Kingdom.

Between December 2021 and February 2022, I worked in Sham Shui Po District (SSPODIST) for a job attachment of PMPO and participated in an inter-departmental counter-terrorism (CT) exercise, codenamed “SOUNDWIN”. As a member of the exercise planning team, I was given the opportunity to present the exercise background in front of the Commissioner of Police and the Commissioner of Correctional Services. Through the exercise, I gained a better understanding of how frontline police officers handled emergencies as well as the strong inter-departmental communication and coordination.

In addition, I was responsible for organising lockdown exercises for schools to raise community awareness of the CT guideline of “Run, Hide, Report”. My jobs included planning, lecturing, video editing, analysing feedback, etc. I also guided participants in the exercises. During one of the exercises, I was deeply impressed by the participating students’ quick responsiveness to an emergency. They used bulky items to block the door and successfully prevented the suspicious person from entering their classroom.

Through this internship, I expanded my skill set and experienced the multi-faceted and challenging policing work. I now understand that community safety relies on the cooperation between police officers and citizens. I look forward to joining the Force in future to protect the safety of citizens.
