EU KW saves citizen’s life
In the early morning on December 27, 2021, officers of the Emergency Unit of Kowloon West (EU KW) received a report for assistance from a citizen who had heard a man shouting for help in his building.
Acting Sergeant Lai Ka-ming, Police Constables Ng Cheuk-hang and Chan Hiu-kwong of Platoon 3 of EU KW swiftly arrived at the scene and conducted a search, and through the building’s courtyard they heard a weak voice and located the apartment of the citizen who was calling for help. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a 65-year-old elderly man who lived alone was accidentally locked inside the bathroom after a shower. It was around eight degrees Celsius that night and the elderly man ran out of hot water to keep him warm. He was stark naked and shouted for help for almost five hours. He had low body temperature and might run a risk for hypothermia. Deeply concerned about the well-being of the elderly man, the officers immediately handed over their windbreakers to him and climbed into the bathroom through the window and broke open the bathroom door to rescue him. After the incident, the elderly man wrote a compliment letter to express his appreciation to the officers for their professionalism.
WDIST locates missing elderly citizen
On January 8, 2022, a non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) woman lost contact with her elderly mother while they were going for a walk. She was unable to contact her mother so she sought help from the auxiliary officers who were patrolling nearby. The officers immediately searched the nearby area and attempted to call the missing person.
Meanwhile, Activity Assistant of Junior Police Call of Western District (JPC WDIST), Ms Yeung, noticed a NEC elderly woman was wandering in panic near the JPC clubhouse. Despite of the language barrier, Ms Yeung patiently listened to the elderly woman to assist her. Fortunately, when an officer responsible for the search called the elderly woman’s mobile phone, Ms Yeung found out that the woman is the informant’s mother. Ms Yeung promptly reported the woman’s location and arranged for her to rest in the JPC clubhouse. The informant eventually reunited with her mother with the officers’ assistance. She later wrote a letter of appreciation to praise the WDIST officers for their empathy and assistance.
