In December, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) launched a two-month campaign entitled “CyberDefenders’ Months” under the theme of “Cyberthon” to organise a variety of promotional and educational activities with police regions and districts, with a view to raising public awareness of information security, preventing technology crimes and identifying objectionable information.
The “CyberDefenders’ Months” Kick-off Ceremony cum Cyber Security Professionals Awards 2021 (CSPA 2021) Presentation Ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Science Park on December 2. The CSPA 2021 was co-organised by CSTCB, the Government Computer Emergency Response Team Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre, to recognise the excellence of cyber security personnel in safeguarding cyber security of Hong Kong and serve as an opportunity to showcase their unique capabilities. The CSPA was launched in 2016 to provide a platform for cyber security personnel to share their knowledge and experience, so as to enhance cyber security and build an intact cyber ecosystem.
The judging panel selected 50 awardees among 200 nominees from five sectors, namely Banking and Finance; Information and Communications Technology; Government Departments and Public Bodies; Transport and Public Utilities; and Retail, Wholesale Trade and Small and Medium Enterprises. To recognise individuals, enterprises and organisations for their efforts in enhancing cyber security and combating technology crimes in the past years, a total of 30 additional awards including Cyber Security Service Excellence Awards, Cyber Security Enterprise Excellence Awards and Cyber Security Premium Partner Awards were presented this year.
In his opening speech, Chief Secretary for Administration said that the authorities will step up enforcement against technology crimes. At the same time, they will review the legislation on cyber security and false information, strengthen the cyber security of critical information infrastructures in Hong Kong, combat acts of spreading disinformation and hate speech on social media, in order to uphold national security and ensure cyber security.
When delivering the closing speech, the Commissioner highlighted that with the popularisation of information technology and the promotion of smart city development by the Government, cyber security incidents and technology crimes are expected to increase continuously. The “CyberDefenders’ Months” aims to promote digital citizenship through competitions, promotional booths and seminars, etc.
