The Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group held the Hong Kong Spirit Ceremony 2021 on December 9 to honour groups and individuals for spreading positivity to society and touching the hearts of Hong Kong people with their remarkable endeavours. The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) was presented with the “Hong Kong Spirit 2021” group award in recognition of its contributions to defending the law and order in Hong Kong, protecting the safety of the public, and ensuring the steadfast and successful implementation of “One Country, Two Systems”. Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam presented the award to Commissioner Siu Chak-yee at the ceremony.
In her speech, the Chief Executive praised the Force for being fearless during the riots in 2019, maintaining law and order at the forefront and taking resolute law enforcement actions in a professional manner. Noting that police officers were injured on duty and many ill-intentioned people attacked the Force and family members of police officers, she added that the Force had remained steadfast and finally restored Hong Kong to a safe city that is familiar to all.
The Commissioner pointed out that frontline police officers worked very long hours to quell the riots, while their family members were victims of doxxing and their children were bullied at schools. He said that the award was a recognition of the Force’s efforts and he thanked colleagues for their contributions. He believed the Force could dispel public misunderstanding with its professionalism and he encouraged young people who aspire to serve society to join the Force to protect the public, maintain law and order, and safeguard national security.
