The “Smart Frontline” program designed by three officers won the Merit Award and the Best Innovative Idea Award in the first Force Mobile Application Design Competition.
This application employs a variety of technologies including Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Augmented Reality, Near Field Communication, Artificial Intelligence and Facial Recognition to systematically re-engineer and simplify work procedures of frontline officers. For example, the use of OCR can relieve the burden on frontline officers in handling repetitive clerical and administrative work to enhance efficiency. In addition, real-time information can be provided with the use of Global Navigation Satellite System and Internet of Things technologies. Through existing police wireless devices, supervisors can be informed of the duties and location of patrol officers instantaneously, enabling more comprehensive operational plans and efficient deployment.
