Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) is implementing a 12-month pilot scheme of Project RISE in NTN Region. The NTN Digital Forensics Laboratory and the Regional Digital Forensics Unit (RDFU) have been established to enhance frontline officers’ capabilities in handling digital evidence and conducting forensic examinations of digital devices. CSTCB will implement Project RISE Force-wide if the pilot scheme is successful.
The Digital Forensics Laboratory offers a variety of self-service facilities for RDFU members and frontline officers to extract digital evidence and carry out digital forensic examinations, which significantly enhances the examination efficiency. With a new mode of division of work, simple cases could be handled by RDFU while the Forensic Investigation Section of CSTCB could focus on examining more complicated cases that require sophisticated technical knowledge, thereby substantially shortening the average turnaround time for digital forensic examinations and expediting the overall case management.
The project not only streamlines the digital forensic examination workflow to provide more efficient services to investigation units, but also demonstrates the Force’s commitment to enhancing officers’ policing capabilities in the digital age.
