Commissioner Siu Chak-yee officiated at the handover ceremony of new motorcycles at the Police Headquarters on October 6 to announce the official commissioning of the new BMW R1250RT-P motorcycles to replace the old BMW R900RT-P motorcycles.

In his speech, the Commissioner stated that the performance and safety features of the new motorcycle have been considerably improved. Its high manoeuvrability would certainly assist regional traffic officers in enforcing traffic policing to ensure road safety and reduce traffic accidents.

The Commissioner said that the new motorcycle would be a close partner of the Force Escort Group (FEG), and he thanked FEG officers for their professionalism and loyalty over the past 35 years. They participated in numerous important operations in the past, such as escorting national leaders and foreign political dignitaries who visited Hong Kong. He expected that FEG would continue to display professionalism with the new motorcycles in future operations, in particular the upcoming 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The Commissioner also thanked the Government Logistics Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, and BMW Hong Kong, for their assistance in providing high-performance police motorcycles to the Force.

Superintendent of Traffic New Territories South cum Officer Commanding of FEG Chik Ming-yam said, “The new motorcycle has excellent performance. With an improved control system and high-speed riding stability, coupled with the computer-assisted braking system, the new motorcycle can enhance frontline traffic officers’ safety and confidence in performing duties. The motorcycle also has a variety of preset driving modes to enhance the maneuverability in different situations. Moreover, the new “Hill Start Control” system can prevent the motorcycle from rolling forward and backward on hills. All these features fully reflect the determination of the Force to support frontline officers.”

Sergeant Leung Ka-kit of Traffic Hong Kong Island applauded the eye-catching appearance of the new motorcycle. He said, “The fluorescent yellow and blue battenburg patterns as well as red and blue beacons of the motorcycles are very noticeable on the road, which can effectively protect the safety of road users and traffic officers.”
