The Hong Kong Police Operating Authority (HKPOA) of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) under the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) organised the Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) Training Course for the Service Section (Bronze and Silver Awards) from July to September. The course comprised four modules with different themes. Professionals were invited to share animal-related knowledge with Junior Police Call (JPC) members to raise their awareness of loving animals and respecting lives.

On July 26, officers of HKPOA and AWP of the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island (RCPO HKI) visited the Central District JPC Club to introduce animal-related legislations and the Force’s animal protection work to more than 40 JPC members. Four volunteers and their pet dogs interacted with JPC members and performed plank poses together in the “AWP Plank Challenge”.

On August 2, JPC members visited the Man Yee Activity and Training Centre in Sai Kung to better understand the training of the Police Dog Unit (PDU). Apart from sharing information on caring for police dogs, PDU officers also staged a disciplined performance and interacted with police dogs, to enhance JPC members’ awareness of caring for animals and coexisting with animals in harmony. Officers of HKPOA also led JPC members to participate in different activities to enhance their discipline, self-confidence, team spirit and communication skills.

On August 30, an animal protection seminar was held at the Central District JPC Club, during which trainers brought along guide dogs under training to introduce relevant knowledge to JPC members. The trainers also encouraged JPC members to promote animal protection messages.

On September 11, officers of PPRB and RCPO HKI, together with JPC members, distributed publicity materials on animal protection in Central District to disseminate the message of loving animals and respecting lives in the community. At the end of the course, JPC members were presented with certificates of completion for the Bronze Award.
