The Recruitment Division (RECDIV) launched the Police Recruitment Buddies Scheme in December 2020, with a view to encouraging serving officers to inspire their family members and friends to join the Force. Since the inception of the scheme, 99 officers have served as Recruitment Buddies and successfully made referrals. On September 18, 11 Recruitment Buddies were invited to join the passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) to share the joy of the graduates who had been referred to join the Force under the scheme.

Sergeant Chan Chi-leung and Police Constable Gavin Taylor Orwin were secondary school classmates in 1999. Upon graduation, Chi-leung and Gavin Taylor joined the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) and the Royal Air Force respectively. In 2019, Gavin Taylor decided to return to Hong Kong to join HKPF after witnessing Hong Kong’s unprecedented social unrest. As a recruitment buddy, Chi-leung encouraged Gavin Taylor and shared his experience with him. Gavin Taylor eventually completed the training and became a police constable.

Another recruitment buddy, Police Constable Law Suet-wai, had long known that her brother-in-law, Tai Chi-chung, aspired to become a police officer. After failing in his first attempt 10 years ago, Chi-chung joined the banking industry. In late 2020, after Chi-chung watched the video series “It’s Never Too Late” produced by RECDIV, he applied to join the Force again. During the selection process, Suet-wai provided guidance to Chi-chung to enhance his interview skills and physical fitness. Chi-chung finally graduated from HKPC and was awarded the Silver Whistle and the Commissioner’s Certificate of Academic.

Recruitment buddies play an important role in guiding trainees to achieve their goals and strive for excellence. Officers are welcome to join the scheme to recruit new blood for the Force.
