On the evening of August 14, a yacht owner was steering his boat from Sai Kung to Shau Kei Wan. When the yacht was passing the Sor See Mun channel at about 0.4 nautical miles off the shore, it suddenly lost its power and started drifting. The yacht owner was worried about his safety and the condition of his boat, so he called the Police for assistance.
About five minutes after receiving the report, Police Launch 9 of Marine East Division (MEDIV) swiftly attended the scene. In view of the dangerous situation, officers immediately secured the yacht with ropes, and the yacht was then towed away from dangerous waters by the police launch. The yacht owner expressed appreciation to the officers for their professionalism. The officers’ prompt actions not only kept the passengers onboard safe, but also prevented the yacht from being damaged due to running aground.
To ensure the safety of the seafaring community is one of the operational priorities of Marine Region. This incident demonstrated the professionalism of the marine officers and enhanced the public confidence in the Force.
