Crime Wing Headquarters
The Crime Wing Headquarters and the Prosecutions Division of the Department of Justice (DoJ) co-organised a seminar on the theme of “Trials in relation to Cases of Public Order Events” at the Police Headquarters on August 10. The seminar was also broadcast live to different Regions and around 420 frontline officers participated in the event.
Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (Special Duties) Mr Chau Tin-hang and his team explained the key points of prosecution in relation to cases of public order events, and reminded officers on matters requiring attention and the details when making arrests, gathering evidence at scene and conducting prosecution. The speakers are experienced in handling the prosecution of Operation TIDERIDER related cases. They shared real cases with the participants and made comparisons of the cases with legislation, and explained the burden of proof of the related offences and the preparation work before trial. Participants were active in raising questions and interacting with the speakers.
Support Wing
In order to enhance Force members’ professional knowledge in handling civil litigation, the Support Wing invited officers of the Civil Division of DoJ to conduct a sharing session on August 12. Around 160 Force members participated in the event.
Chief Superintendent of the Support Wing Yau Siu-kei kicked off the event with an opening speech. Afterwards, guest speakers explained the basis and procedures of civil claim and judicial review and highlighted areas that require officers’ attention. The speakers also shared their valuable experiences in case handling and addressed the participants’ concerns arising from the handling of civil litigation.
The sharing session was well received by the participants. They opined that the officers of the Civil Division of DoJ had clarified legal concepts relating to civil litigation, provided useful tips to properly handle civil litigation and strengthened their professional ability in handling civil litigation.
