Airport District (APTDIST) hosted a counter-terrorism (CT) briefing on July 29 at the Airport Police Station. Officers of the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU) were invited to share CT information with about 120 officers from the Airport Authority Hong Kong, the Aviation Security Company Limited and APTDIST.

Global terrorist threats remain complex and ever-changing in recent years, posing grave challenges to airport security worldwide. With a view to enhancing the CT awareness and emergency response of the airport stakeholders, Superintendent of ICTU Leung Ho-ming gave a detailed analysis on the trends of global terrorism and threats of lone-wolf terrorist attack in Hong Kong. ICTU officers also explained the Firearms and Ammunition (Declaration of Arms) (Amendment) Regulation 2021 and its impact on handling cases involving component parts of genuine firearms to APTDIST officers.

APTDIST will continue to organise workshops to raise the CT awareness of airport stakeholders and strengthen their interoperability in response to emergency incidents.
