EDIST protects life and property

Crime officers of Eastern District (EDIST) investigated a robbery case that took place in a residential building in Quarry Bay in May. After following residents into the building, the culprit entered a lift and tailed the 15-year-old female victim to her floor. The culprit pulled the victim to the rear staircases, pinned her on the ground, snatched her property and then fled the scene.

Upon receipt of the report, crime officers of EDIST swiftly accompanied the victim to the hospital for treatment. After comforting her attentively, they enquired about the incident thoroughly. At the same time, the officers reviewed closed-circuit television footage in the vicinity and conducted an in-depth intelligence analysis. They expeditiously identified the suspect and arrested him the next morning. The victim’s family later wrote an appreciation letter to praise the officers for their professionalism. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee also visited the North Point Police Station to present compliment letters to the officers.

After this incident, the victim and her family realised that the Force is a trustworthy and professional team. Crime officers of EDIST took great pride in fulfilling their duties of protecting citizens’ safety and they were encouraged by the recognition from the victim and her family. Through interacting with citizens in daily police duties, officers can enhance citizens’ understanding of police work, promote the positive image of the Force and foster police community relations. Like a small pinion of the Force, each officer plays a critical role in serving the public, regardless of how ordinary routine police work may seem.

Extract from the appreciation letter:

It has been a month since the incident, and I have always wanted to write a letter to express my appreciation for the efforts that your colleagues have made. Frankly speaking, I did not have a good impression of the Police in the past. On the day of the incident, I rushed home and witnessed officers following up on the case proactively. They not only looked at my daughter with compassion, but also took great care of her emotion and injuries during the investigation to make sure that she would not be scared. I could feel their genuineness in helping us and I could see their hard work and efforts. I believe that making the arrest within such a short time is definitely not an easy task. Through this incident, I know that each and every officer put in a lot of effort in performing their duties. I am truly grateful for all that you have done.

NPDIV locates missing person

On the evening of July 28, officers of Patrol Sub-unit 1 of North Point Division (PSU 1 NPDIV) received a missing person case, in which the informant reported that her six-year-old son went missing while they were at Fort Street in North Point. Since the missing boy is at a tender age and suffers from autism, the case was classified as a “missing person at risk” case.

PSU 1 NPDIV officers arrived at the scene swiftly and communicated with the informant. After collecting some basic information and a description of the missing boy, the officers immediately conducted a sweeping to search for the boy. An hour later, the officers located the missing boy inside the Metropole Building in North Point. After further investigation, the officers allowed the mother to take the boy home and reminded her to take good care of her son to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The mother of the boy later wrote a thank you letter to the Force to praise the officers involved in the case. In this incident, the officers fulfilled their duties by safeguarding the safety of the missing boy and caring for the mother’s emotional needs, and their professionalism strengthened the public’s confidence in the Force. In fact, protecting life and property is one of the missions of the Force, officers will continue to serve the public with Honour, Duty and Loyalty.
