Kowloon West Region

Kowloon West (KW) Region organised a Community Engagement Day at a primary school in Kowloon Tong on June 20, to educate the public to respect animal lives, support animal adoption and not to abandon animals. Around 300 members of the public took part in the event.

Exhibition panels were set up at the venue to introduce legislations related to animal protection, animal knowledge and criminal cases involving animals in KW Region. Winning entries of a photography competition organised by KW Region were also displayed to show the interaction between pets and their owners. Moreover, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Rabbit Society and the Hong Kong Animal Adoption Centre were invited to set up booths to promote animal protection messages.

KW Regional Commander Rupert Dover and Chairperson of the Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) Central Advisory Board cum Assistant Commissioner Kwan Chui-ching were present to support the event and took part in the AWP Plank Challenge to perform plank poses with animals. In addition to the performance by police dogs Sunny and Dave, three Animal Watchers Programme Buddies, police dogs Bobo, Bagel and Bailey, attended the event to interact with the public.

Kowloon East Region

In order to spread the messages of protecting animals and respecting lives, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) held the first animal carnival at Kwun Tong Promenade on August 8, and invited different sectors and animal welfare organisations to join the event. The carnival featured a variety of activities, including game booths, animal themed seminars, abandoned animal adoption as well as singing and police dog performances. The event attracted the participation of a large number of members of the public.

During the event, KE Region held an award presentation ceremony for a photography competition and a poster design competition. With the themes of “Interaction between human and pets” and “Anti-cruelty to animals”, the competitions attracted over 200 entries, among which 13 winners were selected. Acting Regional Commander of KE Ho Kai-hin presented awards to the winners and commended their entries for bringing out the message of animal protection.
