To encourage university students to join the Force upon graduation, the Recruitment Division (RECDIV) organised a series of activities for mentees of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) and the Police Mentorship Programme Outreach (PMPO) between May and July. The activities aimed at enhancing mentees’ understanding of the multi-faceted police work and fostering their personal development.
This year, the Summer Job Attachment Programme employed a total of 104 mentees to work on 63 projects across various police formations, including thematic research, event planning and information technology-related initiatives. The programme enabled mentees to gain a better understanding of police work and develop their communication and leadership skills.
During summer holidays, RECDIV also organised a series of visits to various police formations to deepen mentees’ understanding of police duties. In addition to witnessing the passing-out parades of the Police Tactical Unit and the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC), mentees visited the Detective Training Centre, where they experienced the detective training system “Detective Boulevard” and acted as detectives of District Investigation Team to handle cases at simulated crime scenes. During their visit to the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre, mentees also tried out traffic enforcement equipment such as the breath screening device, the Rapid Oral Fluid Test instrument and the laser speed detection device. When visiting the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau, the Identification Bureau, the Police Public Relations Branch and the Force Escort Group, mentees interacted with officers and gained valuable insights on the culture, values and professionalism of the Force.
The PMP and PMPO Summer Day Camp 2021/22 was held at HKPC on July 31, with the participation of nearly 300 mentors and mentees. Head Mentor cum Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak also joined the camp to interact with mentees. Under the theme “Unleash your potential”, the camp aimed at enhancing mentees’ leadership abilities, responsiveness to changes, communication skills and team spirit through group activities and interactive sessions. Mentees took part in leadership exercises, beat incident exercises and detective games to experience the challenges police officers face in their daily duties. Five Probationary Inspectors, who are ex-mentees of PMP and PMPO, were also invited to conduct a sharing session on their experience during the selection process and training at HKPC.
