The Recruitment Division of the Personnel Wing has launched the Police Recruitment Buddies Scheme with a view to encouraging serving officers to inspire their family members and friends to join the Force.
Since the launch of the scheme, 75 officers have served as Recruitment Buddies and referred their family members and friends to join the Force. To thank them for their contribution, the Human Resources Branch will issue appreciation letters to the Recruitment Buddies upon the appointment of the new recruits and six months after their graduation from the foundation training. Recruitment Buddies will also be invited to assist in various recruitment-related activities.
On July 10, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak invited 10 Recruitment Buddies to attend the passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College, to share the joy of the graduates who had been referred to join the Force under the scheme. These 10 pairs of Recruitment Buddies and graduates are friends, father and son, cousins, couples and siblings, etc.
True friendship in times of need
Sergeant Kevin met Wai-man during their training with the Civil Aid Service (CAS) in 2001 and gradually became good friends. After witnessing the unprecedented social unrest in 2019, Wai-man, under Kevin’s encouragement, quit his role at the CAS to join the Force to safeguard Hong Kong. Throughout the selection process, Kevin shared his past experience and values of the Force with Wai-man. Wai-man overcame many obstacles and joined the Force successfully.
Like father, like son
Sergeant Kin-hau raised his son, Ho-tin, to be a self-disciplined person with strong learning motivation and Ho-tin inherited the righteous character from his father.
Kin-hau shared his work experience with his son and encouraged him to join the Force after graduation. With the positive influence of his father, Ho-tin was determined to pursue a police career and successfully graduated from the Police College as a Police Constable.
Cousins by blood, brothers by heart
Ah Lung wanted to become a police officer since his childhood. After he applied to join the Force, his cousin, Police Constable Ho-lam, supported him throughout the selection process. Ho-lam shared with Ah Lung key points of assessment, his work experience and his insights into social issues. When Ah Lung was undergoing foundation training, Ho-lam often encouraged him with his motto – Never say never. Ah Lung eventually became a Police Constable and Ho-lam was delighted to witness his graduation.
