The Airport Security Unit (ASU) and the Railway Response Team (RRT) mounted a joint counter-terrorism (CT) exercise at Tsing Yi Station and Airport Station of Airport Express Line on May 21, with the aim of strengthening the interoperability and joint operation tactics in the event of a terrorist attack in the railway system.

The exercise was conducted on a train en route from Tsing Yi Station to Airport Station, on which two armed terrorists launched a terrorist attack and held passengers hostage. RRT officers who were patrolling on the said train at the time contained the situation immediately and summonsed assistance from ASU, which swiftly arrived at the Airport Station and subdued the terrorists with the coordination of RRT. With the assistance of the staff of Aviation Security Company Limited, all affected passengers were taken care of and a suspicious object found at the platform was duly handled.
