The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) held the second Technology Crime Investigation Course between April 26 and 30, to further enhance the competence and confidence of frontline crime officers in investigating technology crimes.
The course analysed the modus operandi and investigation methods of common technology crimes, key points on collecting digital evidence and using them as evidence in court, cyber intelligence analysis, policing challenges brought about by new technologies, etc. In view of the growing number of cryptocurrency related frauds, Associate Professor of Department of Computer Science of the University of Hong Kong Dr Chow Kam-pui was invited as a guest speaker of a seminar to explain the principles of blockchain and cryptocurrency, Bitcoin transactions and Bitcoin security issues. Chief Inspector of CSTCB Au Yeung Hau-ying also shared his experiences in cryptocurrency investigation and introduced the latest Cryptocurrency Stop-payment Mechanism. Over 300 officers from different units attended the seminar.
Chief Superintendent of CSTCB Dr Law Yuet-wing thanked the officers for their participation and encouraged them to keep abreast of the latest technologies to keep pace with the changing policing demand.
