On March 27, Operation Breakthrough’s annual dragon boat season kicked off with an opening ceremony officiated by Marine Regional Commander David Jordan and Operation Breakthrough’s Chairman cum Deputy Commander of Sau Mau Ping District Glenn O’Neill. Over 30 young people participated in the training. They were referred to the programme by the Police Superintendent’s Discretion Scheme, school discipline masters or local orphanages.
Members of the local community attended the opening ceremony to show their support for the programme, including Operation Breakthrough Dragon Boat Honorable President
Mr Cheung Yat-leung and Honorable Advisor Mr Chan Kuen-kwan. Operation Breakthrough’s director Mr Liu Ho-yee and a number of serving and retired officers of the Force and the Fire Services Department took part in the programme as volunteers.
Additionally, in partnership with Outward Bound Hong Kong, Operation Breakthrough put 22 young people through an adventure training course in Sai Kung between April 9 and 10. Two police volunteers guided and encouraged the young people throughout the training.
Similar courses will be held in the coming summer, with plans for a six-day challenge in the pipeline.
