At the invitation of the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU), Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Sociology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Jiang Bo, spoke on the topic of “Terrorist Threat and Radicalisation” at an inter-departmental counter-terrorism seminar held at the Police Headquarters on February 24 and 25. The seminar was attended by over 130 officers from other member departments of ICTU as well as members of the Counter Terrorism Intelligence Cadre and the Psychological Services Group in the Force.


Professor Jiang is a scholar with profound knowledge in terrorism-related studies. He shared with the audience his insights on the role of search engine in online radicalisation and violent political extremism in prisons overseas, and gave his views on the potential implications to Hong Kong. He also elaborated on the terrorist threat facing the Belt and Road region.


One of the roles of ICTU is to enhance counter-terrorism knowledge and capabilities of ICTU’s member departments through coordinating and organising appropriate training programmes. This informative seminar provided such a platform and ICTU will continue to explore other opportunities to achieve this objective.
