With a view to fortifying the capacity in combating transnational cybercrime and mitigating cyber security threats, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) has been collaborating with overseas law enforcement agencies, cyber security experts and practitioners.
In terms of international collaboration, Acting Chief Superintendent of CSTCB Lam Cheuk-ho led officers to participate in the online INTERPOL Cybercrime Directors Workshop on January 20, during which they discussed the cyber threats and crimes such as phishing attacks and distributed denial-of-service attacks stemmed from the outbreak of COVID-19 with representatives from China, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. In the workshop, the participants also shared their respective strategies, enforcement operations and crime prevention campaigns.
Locally, CSTCB hosted the webinar themed “Cyber Security Trend: Retrospect and Prospect” on January 22. Over 400 representatives from the government, public utilities, transportation, communications, and banking and finance sectors participated in the event. In the opening remarks, Superintendent of CSTCB Cheung Tin-lok said that enterprises and government departments might continue implementing work-from-home arrangement under the pandemic. In light of the more frequent online activities, industry stakeholders should take active measures to lower the risk of and to mitigate the consequences of cyber attacks.
