Commissioner Tang Ping-keung took the salute as the Reviewing Officer at the passing-out parade of 170 members of the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Zulu Company on January 22. He hoped that the passing-out officers would uphold the glorious tradition of the “blue beret” and stand at the forefront to protect Hong Kong.

In his speech, the Commissioner said that whenever there was turmoil in Hong Kong society, the “blue beret” remained steadfast as the core unit of the Police Force in restoring order to society. He added that during the violent incidents that swept across Hong Kong in 2019 and 2020, the “blue berets” had risen to the challenges with the most professional and efficient actions. Relying on the unremitting efforts of colleagues to guard Hong Kong, society is now back to a relatively stable situation, but all officers must stand ready to prevent the recurrence of violence.

The Commissioner also reminded the officers that an operational unit must keep pace with the times, regarding equipment, tactics as well as joint operations with other units. The troops must strive for continuous improvement so that officers can complete tasks safely and effectively in different operating environments.
