On November 26, 2020, District Crime Squad 2 of Eastern District (DCS 2 EDIST) took over the investigation of a robbery case taking place outside a restaurant in North Point. In the small hours, a criminal pointed a pair of scissors at the restaurant owner, intimidating the owner to hand over all the cash. The owner struggled and pushed away the criminal. During the tangle, the owner sustained a scissor cut on the hand but suffered no property losses. The criminal fled after failing to rob.
DCS 2 EDIST examined over 30 closed-circuit television footages of the surrounding 10 streets and conducted in-depth intelligence analysis based on the statements of the victim and witnesses. They expeditiously identified a suspect and planned an overnight ambush and arrest operation, leading to the arrest of the criminal within 12 hours after the report and the recovery of the scissors involved.
Excerpt of the victim's appreciation letter to the Force:
I was informed by the DIT officers on the following day that the robber was arrested at the night when I made the report. I was impressed by the efficiency of the Force and was relieved as I would no longer have to be haunted with fear whenever my shop is open.
I came to know that the police had been working throughout the night upon receiving my report. I am truly grateful to them for attaching importance to my case. I am very satisfied with their handling of the case and have gained so much confidence in the Force. I wish to thank every officer from the Uniform Branch and DIT for handling my case with professionalism, attentiveness and efficiency. I hope to praise their performance and commend their efforts.
