In view of the changing technological landscape, the INTERPOL has recently set up the Innovation and Technology Advisory Group (ITAG), aiming to advise the INTERPOL Secretary General and the General Secretariat on matters relating to technology and innovation. The group also serves as a channel for exchanging information, sharing opportunities, discussing challenges and concerns that are faced by member countries.

Four representatives of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), namely Senior Superintendent Dr Hui Chun-wai, Superintendent (SP) Ho Yiu-cheung, Senior Inspector Wong Chung-yin and Inspector Ng Yau-wai from the Innovation and Solution Lab of the Information Systems Wing (ISW), attended the first ITAG meeting virtually from January 13 to 15. During the meeting, they met more than 100 technology and innovation pioneers from around 50 INTERPOL member countries to facilitate collaboration and problem-solving.

SP (Digital Transformation and Support) Ho Yiu-cheung has been appointed as the Regional Representative of Asia Pacific and Middle East of ITAG, with a two-year term. He will be responsible for liaising with other member countries from the region and bring their perspectives to ITAG. The group will then be able to better grasp the varied situations in member countries, with a view to adopting a more granular approach to assist individual members to address specific issues on innovation and technology. It is also beneficial to the exchange of ideas, skill sets and best practices on the digital policing capability between the HKPF and other law enforcement counterparts.
