The Good Citizen Award 2020 Presentation Ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters on January 12 to honour and recognise the citizens who have assisted the Police in crime fighting, and to encourage the public to report crime, be a witness and give a helping hand to others when necessary.
The ceremony was held as a closed-door event due to the pandemic. Commissioner Tang Ping-keung, Fight Crime Committee member Dr Lee Chung-tak and Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Mr Leung Siu-kay were the officiating guests.
Fifty out of 80 awardees attended the ceremony. The eldest Good Citizen, 87-year-old Ms Lau, assisted to rescue a drowning swimmer from the sea. She fully demonstrated her bravery and caring heart. Mr Lam Chiang-kwan won the Good Citizen of the Year Award for his courageous act in which he saved two females and two children from a fire scene.
The Police Public Relations Branch invited artiste Ms Vivian Lai as guest performer to present the Police Theme Song “Safeguard Hong Kong” with the Police Band and five police singers.
A special programme “Good Citizen Award 2020 Highlight” was broadcast on Police Facebook page in the same evening. Three of the awardees’ stories were filmed and included in the programme. The programme was so popular and the hit rate on social media has reached over 100 000 times.
