Cheung Sha Wan Division (CSWDIV) held an inter-departmental operational briefing cum site visit on December 18, 2020 in CSWDIV Police Station to enhance frontline units’ operational efficiency in managing public events outside the West Kowloon Law Courts Building (WKLCB) and the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) of the Correctional Services Department (CSD). CSD officers briefed participants on their escort arrangement of detainees and security measures of LCKRC during public events. They also led the site visit to the detention facilities inside WKLCB and to the ground of the LCKRC.

Both WKLCB and LCKRC are located in CSWDIV. Since May 2020, the Police have managed over 100 public events and crowd gatherings outside the facilities. In view of the increasing high-profile cases heard in the WKLCB which often attract extensive media coverage and public attention, the frontline units should better understand the overall situation of the WKLCB and LCKRC in a bid to timely maintain public safety.

Over 40 participants from different Police and CSD units attended the briefing cum site visit. The event strengthened the readiness of the frontline units to police public events and communication with other stakeholders, thereby enhancing their competence to respond to emergency incidents.
