During the investigation into a case of burglary occurred in October in Tai Po, crime officers of Tai Po District (TPDIST) targeted a crime syndicate and launched an arrest operation on October 19 in Tseung Kwan O Village. Three men were arrested for the offence of burglary at the scene. It was believed that they were involved in a total of 11 burglaries across the territory between September and October.
During the operation, one of the men put up a fierce struggle and assaulted a police officer, who suffered injuries in the scuffle. The village heads and villagers of Tseung Kwan O Village proactively rendered timely assistance at the scene by providing supplies and treating the wound of the injured officer.
On November 5, Assistant District Commander (Crime) of TPDIST Chong Shing-yat, the case investigators, officers from Police Community Relations Offices of TPDIST and Tseung Kwan O District (TKODIST), together with the Chairman of Hang Hau Rural Committee Mr Lau Kai-hong and village heads of Tseung Kwan O Village Mr Chan Pui-kan and Mr Chan Kat-cheung, paid a visit to Tseung Kwan O Village to present letters of appreciation to the villagers in recognition of their assistance and co-operation with the Police in the operation.
As there are many villages in TPDIST and TKODIST, police officers took the opportunity to share their experience on crime prevention and anti-burglary measures with the villagers of Tseung Kwan O Village. They also introduced the anti-burglary luminous stickers implemented in TPDIST to the villagers.
Police-public co-operation was fully demonstrated in the operation. The Police will continue to raise public awareness of crime prevention and work closely with community stakeholders to combat crime.
