The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) and Shatin District (STDIST) co-hosted the “From Cyber Pitfalls to Digital Literacy” webinar on October 20, to explore how to cultivate the digital citizenship of teenagers and children. The event attracted the participation of nearly 300 representatives from the Education Bureau and the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, and principals and teaching staff of primary and secondary schools in STDIST, Kwai Tsing District, Tsuen Wan District and Lantau District.
At the event, Senior Superintendent of the Police Public Relations Branch Fan Chor-fun led officers to introduce the directions of future development of the Junior Police Call (JPC) and Youth Liaison Section, and a series of upcoming activities and the newly set up information platforms for schools, youths and JPC.
During the webinar, STDIST Police Community Relations Officer Ip Cheuk-yu pointed out that cultivating students’ digital literacy was of utmost importance in facilitating independent and lifelong learning. He cited a few good practices of the industry for schools to take reference from in developing a comprehensive digital literacy policy.
Acting Chief Inspector Chui Wai-ying of the CSTCB focused on technology crimes and the latest cyber security risks that young people are mostly exposed to and used examples to illustrate the modus operandi and analyse victims’ mindset. She also discussed how schools should deal with cyberbullying.
