The renovation of the District Operations Room (DOR) of Eastern District (EDIST) was recently completed. Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island Kwok Pak-chung, accompanied by EDIST Commander Peter Whitton, officiated at the opening ceremony for the DOR on September 7.
In order to consistently meet the operational needs, the DOR replaced and upgraded the ageing hardware and obsolete equipment. With the support and assistance of Information Systems Wing and Planning and Development Branch, the enhancement project was completed within eight weeks.
The police station is now secured with the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system covering the entire perimeter of the station. The system is connected to a television wall, comprising six 55-inch 4K Ultra High Definition televisions, allowing officers to view live streaming through the newly installed cameras. Achieving a breakthrough in connectivity, the DOR has pioneered the consolidation of all digital CCTV signals from its divisional stations with all relevant real-time images displayed. This technological advancement has tremendously enhanced the capability and efficiency in situation appreciation upon station defence. Furthermore, the DOR has the capability of monitoring Temporary Holding Area at North Point Police Station, which would alleviate the heavy workload of the report room.
Another highlight of the DOR is the adoption of one 75-inch “Interactive Digital Smartboard” and one 65-inch “Interactive Digital Smart-table”. The two devices not only allow officers to make records and draw deployment maps, but also provide a platform for online video conferencing. Ground situation and police deployment can be handily marked and updated to enhance efficiency and accuracy in decision making. In the future, the equipment can be utilised to conduct online meetings and briefings through a secured network, making operations far more productive and efficient.
